Here is a summary of the most important headlines from this week.

Travellers to Canada will need a negative COVID-19 test

Canada will require a negative COVID-19 PCR test from international travellers arriving in the country. The PCR test will not replace the 14 day quarantine requirement.

Travellers arriving in Canada are required by law to quarantine for 14 days. They must stay indoors at all times, and must know how they intend to get groceries and medicine. Breaking quarantine may result in up to six months in prison or up to CAD $750,000 in fines.

Manitoba PNP draw invites 188 immigration candidates

A total of 188 immigration candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination in Manitoba’s latest provincial draw.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) invited candidates through one of three immigration streams:

Changes in Quebec immigration in 2021

As of January 1, 2021, Quebec has increased its immigration processing fees by 1.26%.

There are also additional changes rolling out later this month. Applications submitted through the Foreign Student Program (FSP) and the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ) must be submitted electronically. Paper applications will not be accepted.

In addition, electronic submission will be required for Quebec’s new permanent immigration pilots:

Temporary residents have until the summer to restore their status

Temporary residents who had valid temporary residence status on or after January 30, 2020, and whose status expired on or before May 31, 2021, will have until August 31, 2021 to apply to restore their status.

In order to be eligible, candidates must have stayed in Canada since entering the country, and must have lost their status during that period. They must have also paid the required application processing fees.
