Last week was a huge week for Canadian immigration. Canada held two Express Entry draws, three provinces held provincial draws, and Canada announced six new immigration programs to help international graduates, essential workers and French speakers become permanent residents.

Six new immigration programs announced

Canada announced six new immigration programs for international student graduates, health care workers and other essential workers, as well as French speaking candidates.

Half of the programs will accept up to 90,000 applications. The other half targets French speakers and will not have an intake cap.

The streams will begin accepting applications on May 6, 2021 and will end on November 5, 2021.

IRCC holds two Express Entry draws

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held two Express Entry draws last week. 

The first draw on April 14 invited 266 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residence. These candidates needed to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 753.

The second draw was held on April 16. A total of 6,000 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates were invited in this draw. Candidates needed a minimum CRS score of just 417. This was the second largest Express Entry draw of all time.

British Columbia holds provincial draw

The province of British Columbia held a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on April 13, inviting 452 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence.

Candidates were invited through the Skilled Worker, International Graduate and Entry Level and Semi-Skilled subcategories under the Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry B.C. (EEBC) categories.

420 candidates needed to have a minimum provincial score between 79 and 95, depending on the subcategory. Another 21 candidates were invited through another draw that targeted retail and wholesale trade managers (NOC 0621) and food service managers (NOC 0631). A further 11 candidates were invited under the Entrepreneur Immigration streams.

Ontario holds Tech draw

A total of 528 Express Entry candidates with tech experience were invited to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence on April 13. 

Candidates were invited through the Ontario Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream. They must have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of between 456 and 467. 

PEI draw invites 156 candidates in latest draw

Prince Edward Island invited a total of 156 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence through the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP).

140 invitations went to Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates. Another 16 invitations went to Business Impact candidates who had a minimum score of 75.
